Asbestos Reports

This communication serves to inform all parents, legal guardians, teachers, administrators and all other employees that the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) requires that each year, West Irondequoit Central School District workers and building occupants receive notification of asbestos removal or abatement activities such as a response action or inspection (EPA 40 CFR § 763 Subpart E).

The six-month periodic survey of asbestos at all buildings required by AHERA is performed in October and March.  The three-year re-inspection, also required by law, was performed in June 2022 by a fully accredited Asbestos Inspector from the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership Health, Safety and Risk Management Office. All asbestos-containing materials that remain are in good condition and are located in primarily in inaccessible areas. The next three-year re-inspection will be completed in June of 2025. Each building will continue to have a six-month periodic survey and a three-year re-inspection as required by AHERA.

All abatement projects have been and will continue to be performed by New York State and EPA approved asbestos abatement contractors.

Updated asbestos management plans for each school building are available for review at the Department of Environmental Services, 720 Washington Ave, Rochester, NY 14617 by appointment with the LEA designee.

Any questions regarding asbestos removal projects or any asbestos related issues should be addressed to LEA Designees John Conti or Kurt Miller, 720 Washington Ave, Rochester, NY 14617 or e-mailing [email protected] or calling (585) 336-3009.
