DECEMBER 6, 2017

Students will be given the 2018-2019 Course Selection sheets in 1st period on Thursday, December 7, 2017.   Students will take the Course Selection forms to each of their classes on Thursday and Friday.  Teachers will indicate a suggested course for next year for each student.  This will be considered in course placement along with student/family interest and counselor input. Students should be assumed to move on to the next grade level in the subject.  In areas where there are advanced or AP courses, teachers should speak with each student about those opportunities and encourage/support the student to challenge at a higher level if they have an interest and commitment.   The forms will be collected by the last period teacher or turned into the Counseling Center on Friday the 8th.

The 2018-19 Course Catalog is also available on the IHS Web site.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 21

7-12 report cards will be available on the portal as of 3pm today.

A recent memo from the New York State Education Department (NYSED) updated and clarified a variety of guidelines for meeting the requirement of a minimum of 180 days of session for all New York State Public Schools.  In order to comply with these regulations (and not jeopardize a loss in State Aid) the following adjustments were made to the 2017-18 School Calendar for grades 7-12.  No changes to the calendar were necessary for grades K-6.

·    Grades 9-12 (IHS).  January 26th has been changed from a local exam date to a regular day of instruction.  NYSED guidelines state that January local exam dates must correspond with January NYS Regents exam dates (January 22-25).

·     Grades 7-8 (Dake).  The dates for local exams has been reduced to June 18th through June 20th.  June 12-15 will be regular days of instruction in order to meet NYSED guidelines pertaining to the length and format of local exam days at junior high schools.

The new calendar is available on our website, here: http://www.westirondequoit.org/UserFiles/Servers/Server_228510/File/Calendars/2017-18_WICSD_School_Calendar.pdf

October 4

Good morning IHS parents/guardians,

As we head toward the culminating events of our spirit week today and tomorrow I would like to thank our Student Council and commend the student body on showing a lot of school spirit overall!

I would also like to reiterate and emphasize the importance of students making positive and appropriate decisions during these fun weeks and events.   Competition between classes can be a lot of fun but needs to remain respectful and kind.

In addition, we expect students to attend all their regularly scheduled classes today prior to the pep rally.  Any behavior that disrupts the learning environment, is destructive, or unsafe will not be tolerated and the students involved will be subject to discipline per our District Code of Conduct.  Our learning community is built on mutual respect and we know our students can live up to our expectations and make us proud!

Thank you for your support.  Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns.
